Budget Meals: Fall Family Favorite, Shepherd's Pie
Shepherd's Pie is a flavorful and hearty fall favorite

The Recipe
Olive oil for sauteing
1 large onion
2 lb ground turkey (or your meat of choice)
2 cloves of garlic
1 large carrot, diced
2 bay leaves
1 tbsp salt
1 tbsp pepper
1 tbsp tomato paste
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2 packet powdered gravy mix (we used mushroom)
1 cup water
1 cup of frozen peas
Mashed potatoes, either instant or from scratch
Saute onion in a little olive oil.
Add the ground meat, and garlic. Saute until browned
Add the carrot, bay leaves, salt, pepper and tomato paste
Stir in the Worcestershire sauce
Sprinkle on the gravy mix and add water, stir to combine
Simmer for 15 mins
Stir in frozen peas
Transfer to a baking dish, remove the bay leaves
Spread mashed potato evenly over the surface of the meat mixture
Use a fork to create ridges in the potato layer and broil until golden brown
