Navicore Employee Spotlight: Joe

Meet our Counseling Supervisor & Trainer

Joe Gustus Spotlight off centerName: Joe
Years of Service: 21 Years
Position: Counseling Supervisor & Trainer

What do you enjoy most about your position?

I love training new employees.  When someone comes onboard with a company, it can be a very overwhelming experience.  My role as trainer is not only to teach them about counseling, but also help alleviate their fears along the way by being supportive and patient as they learn all about their role.

What three words describe Navicore as a company?
Vital, Indomitable, Steadfast

What's the best career lesson you've learned?
Never react solely on impulse.  When something happens that presents itself as a problem or challenge, it's best not to let yourself get swept away with a knee-jerk reaction without at least giving some thought to your response.  Sometimes when we are caught off guard by an “incident,” we might react too hastily without considering the consequences of our actions.  If we let our emotions control the way we respond … without thinking about it rationally, it can make a negative situation much worse.

What has been your proudest moment at Navicore?
Winning first place at the Navicore Karaoke contest – Labor Day 2006!

What do you like to do when you're not at work?
Collect CDs and movies, swimming, spending time outdoors in nature and reading.  I also really enjoy making Youtube vlogs and Tik Toks about my favorite albums and films.

What's your superpower?
My speaking voice.  It can calm others down.

Do you have a personal motto or mantra?
When you have the choice to be right or to be kind – just pick kind.

Did you create or learn a new skill during the pandemic?
Yes – I learned how to create videos on Tik Tok!

Who either living or dead would you like to have dinner with and why?
David Bowie, Paul McCartney & Madonna.  They are rock music royalty.

Favorite travel spot?
Vermont

How do you define success?
Success is when you are able to find something to laugh about even during the most difficult of times.

If given a chance, who would you like to be for a day?
Olympic swimmer Tom Daley

Is there anything else you would like to share?
“We are not all in the same boat.  However, we  are in the same storm.  Some have yachts, some have canoes, and some are drowning.  Just be kind and help whoever you can.  Many times what people need is not a brilliant mind that speaks but a special heart that listens.”  — Adapted from a quote by Damian Barr.

We'd like to thank Joe for his ongoing commitment to serving our customers.
